Brightsparks Academy Graduates: Rachel

Brightsparks Academy is a unique opportunity to gain ten weeks of market leading work experience in a fast paced and vibrant business. Designed to build both skills and confidence in its trainees, Brightsparks Academy is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be guided and supported in finding your next career move and build a portfolio of experience in one of York’s Top 100 Businesses.

The first group of Brightsparks Academy trainees have just graduated from the programme and we asked them to share their experience to help prospective applicants learn more about it.

Recently we spoke to Rachel Hoyle who completed the Brightsparks academy trainee digital marketing course about what made her join the academy and it seemed primarily the opportunity to learn new skills was the most exciting part of the course for her. Followed very closely by what she learned about who Brightsparks are, their values and how they give back to the local community. This fits very well with her own personal values. The course also fit around her family commitments which added to the appeal.

The technical skills she has learned on the course include to navigate her way around the numerous Google platforms and use them successfully to enable her to work remotely.  Learning some of the intricacies of social media marketing and blog writing. The most exciting thing was the fact that she could now confidently have a go at building a website from scratch, which was something she had no clue about previously.

She learnt that she is ready to get back into work having had a few years at home with her family. Learned that having previously been in a fairly senior role at my last place of work she is happy to start from scratch and embark on something new.

Through the coaching programme she had time to think about her own values and how it is important to her to integrate them into any future employment, her strengths and how she should use them to my advantage.

She enjoyed the course and learnt new skills but didn’t anticipate how much she would enjoy the work and meeting new people, both the other trainees and the Brightsparks employees.
