Our top 5 family-friendly Easter activities!

Easter is fast approaching, so we’ve picked our top 5 family-friendly activities for you and your children to take part in together. It’s a great way to keep them busy during the holidays and encourage creativity.

Paper plate Easter bunny

It’s easy to make yourself an Easter bunny out of some arts and crafts supplies that you might already have lying around the house.

Materials:

  • Paper plate

  • Cotton balls

  • Googly eyes

  • Brown pipe cleaners

  • Pink pom poms

  • White and pink

  • Craft glue

  • Scissors

We have taken inspiration from Simply Today Life’s Easter bunny craft - you can find out how to make the bunny on their site.

Tissue paper stained glass eggs and bunnies

Working with tissue paper is a great way to get your toddlers and younger children involved in decorating and you can create some lovely little Easter decorations with them too!

Materials:

  • Printed template of an egg or bunny

  • Coloured tissue paper

  • Tracing paper

  • Glue stick

  • Black card

  • Small amount of string or wool

You can find the instructions for Michael’s tissue paper Easter decorations here. Happy decorating!

Easter baking

BBC Good Food have some great Easter recipes for all ages and baking abilities. Our favourites are the Easter Nests because they're so quick and easy to make and only need 3 ingredients. Have fun baking!

Egg hunts

Easter egg hunts are a classic activity and it’s great to get the whole family involved. You can hide chocolate eggs around the house or garden, or hide small treats in little plastic eggs for your children to gather in a basket.

Hobbycraft have an egg hunt supplies section on their website so you can find everything you need

Egg decorating competition

Why not host an egg decorating contest with the whole family? You can print out Easter egg templates from Twinkl and colour them in or decorate them with glitter, feathers and other craft supplies.

We hope you have plenty of fun during these Easter holidays, but we know that school holidays can also be tricky for some families. It isn’t unusual for your child’s behaviour to change when their routine changes and they are not at school, or they may struggle with the adjustment of going back. Our parenting course could be an additional source of support to help you with your confidence and understand your child and their needs.

Our Positive Futures parenting course starts in May and will run over 8 weeks with a weekly 90-minute session on a Wednesday evening. It’s ideal for parents/carers of children aged 5-16

The course aims to support you with your communication skills, build self-confidence and improve your child’s behaviour at home. It’s completely free for York residents - we want to make it as accessible as possible for parents.

You can sign up for our course here: www.brightsparkscic.org.uk/positive-futures
